Common Sense Fire Prevention Tips

Who would not want to protect his house and loved ones from fire? If all of us do want to stay away from fire than why has home accidents resulting from fire gained momentum? A simple straightforward answer will be; we tend to go careless on things most vital in our lives.

We want to warm up our houses with attractive offers like UK heat logs and wood briquettes for sale, kitchen appliances at discount or combo candle deals at Valentine's Day! However, living a life full of warmth requires a bit caution and preventive effort from your side. Let's take a birds view on basic fire prevention tips which will not only ensure your own safety, but that of your loved ones and neighborhood.

Research shows that more than 50% of residential fire is caused from kitchen through mishandling of electronic equipment and gas appliances. To ensure your kitchen is safe from fire causing hazards, prevent using napkins, cloth towels or curtains near the stove or any place near the fire. Do not keep any type of flammable material near your stove. Ensure kitchen wiring is properly installed and the sockets are getting their fair amount of voltage. Also, do not use cooking unattended. All of us get consumed up by daily tasks and in fire prevention, little things matter. Using your cooking range to heat the house is a very bad idea.

Amongst other things comes heating and electronic distribution equipment. It is highly advisable to place space heaters at least 3 to 4 feet away from flammable material. While lighting a gas space heater, always ensure to light your match first to turn on the gas heater. Also, always take good care of proper ventilation while using a space heater. It is advisable to use an automatic heater with on/off functions! In electrical devices, keep your eyes and nose open. Get into action if you smell a wire burn or feel a warm extension. Make sure your home wiring system is not overloaded with modern electrical appliances, if so, get a new wiring system installed ASAP! Quickly repair or replace a frayed or worn extension wires or other electrical devices.

Lastly try not to leave a burning smoke anywhere other than an astray. Try not to smoke indoors and smoke farther away from magazines, carpets and curtains. Also, keep an eye on your children activities. Discuss hazards of smoking with them so that they know it's not only bad for health but can also cause fire. Also, use candles with care. We often tend to have candlelight dinners, washroom tub settings and wild genie calls, but caution is the best policy when it comes to fire prevention.
